Alstom appoints Christian Martinati as General Director for EKZ JV in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan

The only manufacturing plant of electric locomotives in Central Asia

2 August 2021 – Alstom has appointed Christian Martinati as General Director for EKZ JV, based in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Christian replaces Julien Naudy, who led EKZ during the last 4 years. Christian has been working in the machinery industry for almost 20 years and has extensive experience across the mobility industry in different parts of the world.

Christian Martinati joined Alstom following the company’s acquisition of Bombardier Transportation earlier this year. In his previous role, Christian was responsible for industrial management at Crespin, France. Before, Christian headed the Methods Department, based in Villeneuve, Switzerland. Between 2011 and 2013 he was based in Astana and worked as Head of Transfer Technology and later Production Director for EKZ. He also worked in Saratov, Russia and was in charge of setup of the locomotive manufacturing plant.

Christian graduated from ESIX France University and holds a master’s degree in General Management.

Alstom is present in Western & Central Asia with more than 1,000 people, three country offices in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, five depots, repair center and two plants, EKZ in Nur-Sultan for electric locomotives manufacturing and maintenance and production of on-board transformers, and KEP in Almaty to produce point machines. Alstom is a major contributor to the revitalization of the region’s mobility industry and the development of its economy.

EKZ, a joint venture of Alstom, employs around 850 people and is working on supplying and maintaining the Prima electric locomotives ordered by KTZ, Kazakhstan’s national railway company and export markets, like Azerbaijan.
